Review: To Seduce a Lady's Heart (Landon Sisters #3) by Ingrid Hahn

Synopsis

Lord Jeremy Landon, Earl of Bennington, spent the last ten years rebuilding the ruined earldom he inherited from his scandal-ridden uncle. He has one final debt to repay. In lieu of money, though, he is manipulated into marrying a spinster…

Lady Eliza Burke is tired of living under the rule of a tyrannical mother. She’ll do anything to escape, even marry a man she doesn’t know—and a man her mother despises. Eliza doesn’t believe herself destined for love. Lord Bennington doesn’t believe he’s destined for happiness. Both are about to be tested by a scandal that could tear them apart forever.

Review

It's quite an interesting read. I loved both Jeremy and Eliza, they're well suited for each other. Jeremy is tired of being judged because of his family's history. He is obsessed to right every wrong his predecessor committed. And in last ten years he has succeeded in doing so. Now all he needs is to pay back one last debt and then he will feel the weight of the world lifted from his shoulders, or at least that's what he thinks. Unfortunately, and very oddly, the person he needs to pay back to refuses any payment. He is at a loss as to what he can do to get rid of his uncle's final debt. Unwitting he mentioned that he will do anything..... now he must marry a woman he has never met, doesn't even know her name, but still he is willing to go through with this marriage. After all he is going to need an heir, and he needs a wife...

Eliza can't believe Lord Jeremy agreed to her mother's crazy scheme to marry her cousin. Not that he looks like a bad person, but her cousin loves someone else. And one should not marry for anything but love. She is going to make sure that her cousin gets the love match she wants. So now its up to her to convince Lord Jeremy that marrying her cousin, whose heart belongs to another, is a wrong thing to do. Unfortunately it seems that his Lordship doesn't believe in love. He has no regard for her cousin's feelings, and just to pay some old debt he is willing to enter what will be a very unhappy marriage. She despises the man for being so heartless. In any case the only thing left to do is that she takes her cousin's place as his wife....

Will they be able to make this marriage work? Or is their union doomed from the start. Both resent each other, and yet both are willing to do their duty... one in fear of scandal his family can't withstand and the other as a penance for her deception...

All in all it is a fun read. I enjoyed it and would recommend to any historical fiction fan who don't mind contrived plots, twists of events, unlikely couples, humour, romance, and a little bit of intrigue.

P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange of my honest opinion.
