Review: Covering All The Bases by Jody Holford

Covering All the Bases (For the Love of the Game, #1)

Synopsis

Talk about a wild day... As if being summoned to the deathbed of a grandfather she didnā€™t know existed wasnā€™t enoughā€“ā€“Isla Bennett meets the man of her dreams. Spends an amazing day playing tourist around Nashville with him. And then finds out sheā€™s inherited the Nashville Slammers major league baseball team. Oh, and her new dream man? Heā€™s the Slammersā€™ star power hitter. Isla just went from amazing first date to holy heck Iā€™m your boss in the span of a day.

Liam Cruz canā€™t believe how refreshing it was to spend a day with someone who didnā€™t know his batting average, the size of his last contract, or heck, even that heā€™s a baseball player. Now Islaā€™s thrust into the spotlight, and though sheā€™s more than capable of handling herself professionally, he takes it upon himself to teach her everything he can about the game that is his whole life. But theyā€™ll have to keep it on the DL.

Because doing whatā€™s best for the team means they can never be togetherā€“ā€“and that might be the toughest play of all.

Review

I loved it! It's a very well-written, sweet, and romantic story. I loved all the characters and I think it has enough angst to make things interesting. I enjoyed every minute of it and I believe it to be a must read for contemporary romance lovers. If you like baseball and sports in general then that's an added bonus. I'm not so just skimmed through the sports aspect of it. Other than that it was an enjoyable read for me.
Liam is a star baseball player who is back in his hometown. He is looking forward to playing for the Slammers, his team. Meanwhile, he is running a bar with his sister. That's where he meets Isla for the first time. She is going through an emotional time and when Liam shows her kindness she begins to fall in love with him. Liam is also attracted to her. Unfortunately, for the two of them, things get complicated when Isla's grandfather's will is read.
It turns out that Isla now owns Slammers and a relationship with Liam is out of the question. But that is least of her worries as her own father tries to sabotage her. she must prove to herself that she is a strong independent woman and her grandfather's trust in her wasn't misplaced.
I loved Isla and I think her character was very relatable. As a woman working in a field that is male-dominated, she faces many problems and overcomes them. She is resilient, strong, but fair in her job. She will play her father's game but she won't play dirty like him. I really enjoyed her character and I think she made this book all the more enjoyable for me. It's a great story and the romance was also off-the-charts hot. Liam and Isla have great chemistry. I'd definitely recommend this book to my fellow readers.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.
