Review: The Best Friend Problem by Mariah Ankenman

The Best Friend Problem

Synopsis

Prudence Carlson has been lucky in life. A fulfilling wedding-planning business run with her girlfriends in Colorado, plus the best guy friend ever in her firefighter bestie Finn. All that’s missing from it is a baby. Luckily, it’s the twenty-first century—Pru can take matters into her own hands. She doesn’t need to find true love to create the future love of her life.

Except all this talk of babies and insemination and...Pru and Finn cross a line they never expected to. Sure, one night of passion won’t change their close friendship. Until Pru goes in for a fertility check-up to find… she’s already pregnant.

As best friends, Pru and Finn have survived college, new jobs, and bad breakups, but can they survive crib shopping, birth classes, and late-night cravings? Especially when Finn has never considered himself even remotely Daddy material?

Review

I loved it! It's such a sweet and romantic story of two friends falling in love. I enjoyed their friendship and how it evolved into something more. Both the main characters are very well-written and well-developed. I also liked the supporting characters. Overall, it's a very good read and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good contemporary romance novel. And if you love friends-to-lovers kind of stories then this is a must-read novel for you.
Pru has control issues. She likes to plan things and hates surprises of any kind. Right now, she has a perfect plan to become a single mother. She loves children and having a family of her own has always been her dream. It's time to go after her dream and that's exactly what she plans to do. But things get a little messed up when all her planning turns out to be a waste. A one-night stand with her best friend turned all her careful planning upside down. It's okay though, she can adjust. After all, she will get what she wants in the end. So, that's what she will focus on. Now, only if everything else goes according to the plan all will be well. Only if...
Finn is a firefighter. Dealing with difficult situations and coming across loss is an everyday occurrence for him. He has learned to deal with surprises well. He knows how to stay calm even when things don't go as planned. When one steamy night ends up changing the entire course of his life, he takes it very well. In fact, he decides that this is a good thing. As long as Pru is happy he will be happy too... Until he begins to realize that he might want different things than her. If things change will their life-long friendship survive or is it better to be a coward and forget what happened between them? One thing is for sure though, a life without Pru isn't something he can even imagine...
It's a beautifully written story about friendship, love, and complicated relationships that make you question every decision you take. I found it highly entertaining and totally worth the read.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.
