Review: Some Like It Plaid by Angela Quarles

Some Like it Plaid

Synopsis

When Ashley Miller sees a Craigslist ad for an all-expense paid vacation to Scotland with a handsome Highland ā€œescortā€, sheā€™s all over it. Worn out from working two jobs to pay off the debts her scam artist ex-husband left her with, she just needs a frigginā€™ break already. Rolling, misty mountains of the Scottish Highlands, here she comes!

But one minute sheā€™s sipping a latte and the next sheā€™s zapped to the 2nd century and promptly informed sheā€™s managed to wed her handsome Highlander without even an ā€œI do.ā€ Oh, hell no.

After a devastating tragedy, Connallā€™s tribe is left with few marriageable women. When his Druid priest suggests a place filled with bonnie lasses, he of course agrees to go fetch one for himself. But nothing prepared Connall for his sassy new wife, nor his tribe for a woman determined to see equal rights for all women.

Now the men are threatening revolt if he canā€™t rein his young wife in, but it might be too late. The women are demanding the men get ā€œwokeā€ā€”which of course makes no sense because they already woke that mornā€”and give women ā€œthe vote,ā€ whatever the bloody hell that is. Despite all that, Connall canā€™t stop wanting to convince his wife to get naked, and heā€™s starting to wonder if heā€™s been bewitched.

Only the more he gets to know her, the more he starts to think sheā€™s just what they needed. If only he survives her next demand...

Review

An interesting twist to time travel, I really enjoyed this book. It's well written and all the characters are amazing. I especially loved Collan and Ashley's characters. They're both strong characters but also, adorable in their own way.

Ashley is recently divorced and hiding from her ex-husband's creditors. Collan is looking for a wife to take back to his time. They're the unlikeliest couple and yet, perfect together. The only problem is that neither of them belongs in the other's time and country. Will they be able to bridge the differences that span through time or is their love story doomed from the start?

I find it an interesting and intriguing read. I am a fan of historical fiction but when you add time travel into the mix, I think the story becomes simply epic. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to all romance fans, especially those who like a good historical romance involving Scottish men in plaids. ;)
