Review: The Price of Temptation by Harmony Williams

Synopsis Lily Darling knew that marrying a con man was a risk, but her new husband swore those days were behind him. Then he disappears without a word, taking all of her money with him. So when her scoundrel of a husband mysteriously returns, years later, hoping to set things right, Lily guards her heart. But curse the man for being just as breathlessly handsome as the day she last saw him. Adam Darling never meant to leave his innocent, beautiful wife, but if he hadn’t, he would’ve been sent to prison and Lily’s good reputation destroyed. He can’t blame her for hating him, and now that he’s back, he’ll do whatever he must to prove he never stopped loving her, even if it takes the rest of his life. But when Lily is blackmailed by someone from their past, she wonders if the reason Adam abandoned her is more complex than a simple con. To find the truth, though, she’ll need to do the impossible—trust him—and with the attraction simmering between them hotter than ever, getting too close co...

Review: Snowed in with the Firefighter (Shadow Creek, Montana #7) by Victoria James

Synopsis Dr. Melody Mayberry’s life just took a turn that’s left her questioning everything. Where better to hide out than the remote family cabin in the mountains? The last thing she expects to find there is her swoon-worthy brother-in-law, the one man who may have more baggage than her. Finn Matthews is not ready to face the fact that the recent injury he sustained in a fire may have ended his firefighting career. He’s not interested in sharing the cabin with anyone, let alone Melody, and their family just texted with yet another unwelcome surprise—they’ll be there Christmas Eve. To keep their meddling family at bay, the two team up to fake a little holiday cheer. But between ridiculously competitive Monopoly games, marathon Christmas decorating, and a storm that strands them together with nothing but a fire and a warm couch, they realize something major—their fake holiday cheer isn’t feeling so fake anymore, and that’s something neither of these two Grinches expected...   Add to...

Review: Twelfth Knight’s Bride by E. Elizabeth Watson

Synopsis Lady Aileana Grant just wants to help her starving clan at Christmastide. So she pilfers some vegetables from the bastard Laird James MacDonald--the Devil, they call him. When the Devil shows up and demands marriage as recompense for the thievery, Aileana can’t believe it when her brother agrees. Even if she’s able to negotiate a severance on Twelfth Night, that’s still two weeks to put up with the laird in enemy territory. She’s counting down the days, even if James isn’t quite the disgusting cretin she’d imagined. James needs to marry an enemy bride in order to inherit his fortune. Cursed restrictions. He’d been unable to look away from Aileana’s untamed beauty ever since she squared off with him. He might as well handfast with the infernal lass. He’d get his money and perhaps some peace among the clans. He has a fortnight to win the heart of the lady with the voice of an angel despite her sharp tongue. Twelfth Night is merry and bright as Aileana and James realize a true co...

Review: A Governess Should Never... Tempt a Prizefighter by Emily Windsor

Synopsis “So tell me, Miss Griffin, why should I employ you as governess?” A question to rouse fear within the breast of any prospective governess but for Matilda, a lady without references, appropriate brown clothing or any experience with children whatsoever, doubly so. Yet, alone in the world, except for a brutish guardian and a malodorous betrothed, Matilda must seek her own future, even if that means employment in the household of a rugged ex-prizefighter with sizeable muscles and doubtless miniscule intellect. “Please continue to enlighten me, Miss Griffin.” Mr Seth Hawkins, owner of famed Boxing Academy, has reached the point of desperation in his search for a governess. Yet, with no other suitable candidates, could this yellow-clad, bespectacled female who seemed to think him a witless dolt with calloused knuckles and no books, teach his daughter the ways of a lady? The Lady and the Prizefighter. One should never judge a man by his well-defined muscles or a lady by her yellow-s...

Review: Clay House by Jordan Elizabeth

Synopsis When the land remembers evil, no one is safe. When fifteen-year-old Tatiana Barrie and her family move to a small town in New York, the locals say their new home, known as Clay House, is haunted. The Barries should have believed them. Soon Tatiana's little brother starts acting strange. He sees imaginary friends; he knows things he shouldn't. Tatiana's stepfather becomes abusive and erratic. Between possessed dolls and an unknown evil taking over her family, Tatiana is terrified more every day. She should be even more afraid. Add to Goodreads Shelf Review I loved this ghost story. It's well-paced, creepy, and has a very satisfactory ending. Especially, I loved how the past and present stories were told side by side. The Clay house history and present, both are captured beautifully in this short and quick read. Tatiana's family move to the Clay house and that's when things start to go down hill for them. The house has a history which is both sad and horr...
