Synopsis
Miss Maryann Fitzwilliam is too witty and bookish for her own good. No gentleman of the ton will marry her, so her parents arrange for her to wed a man old enough to be her father. But Maryann is ready to use those wits to turn herself into a sinful wallflower.
When the scandal sheet reports a sighting of Nicolas St. Ives, the Marquess of Rothbury, climbing out the chamber windows of a house party, Maryann does the unthinkable. She anonymously claims that the bedchamber belonged to none other than Miss Fitzwilliam, tarnishing her own reputation—and chances of the dastardly union her family secured for her. Now she just needs to convince the marquess to keep his silence.
Turns out Nicolas allows for the scandal to perpetuate for his own reasons… But when Maryann’s parents hold fast to their arranged marriage plan, it’ll take a scandal of epic proportions for these two to get out of this together.

Review
I absolutely loved this fast-paced and intriguing historical romance novel. The story is interesting, well-written, and has well-developed and likable characters. I enjoyed every minute of it. A rake and a wallflower makes a perfect couple after all. Lady Maryann refuses to be used as a pawn. She doesn't care what her parents say, she only wants to marry for love or not at all. So, it seems like a great idea to cause a scandal and get out of an unwanted engagement. However things don't go as planned and now, she finds herself in the middle of something without even knowing what it is. All she knows is that Nicolas isn't as he seems and things are definitely going to get complicated. Against his better judgement Nicolas let Lady Maryann use his name. In fact, if he is being honest he will admit that the lady has intrigued him. He finds himself wanting to spend more time with her and get to know her better. Unfortunately, he has somethings to take care of and he can't put her in danger. Will he be able to keep a safe distance from this enchanting woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid of getting it? I think this is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good historical romance with a hint of mystery and danger. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley. |
