Review: The Highlander Who Loved Me (Highland Hearts #1) by Tara Kingston

The Highlander Who Loved Me (Highland Hearts #1)

Synopsis

He may be her fiercest ally…or a scoundrel waiting to betray her.

Johanna Templeton is on a life-and-death quest. Swept into an intrigue that rivals the tales she pens, she joins forces with a Highland rogue to find the treasure that will save her kidnapped niece—a prize the Scot seeks for reasons that have nothing to do with ransom. Engaging the Highlander in a sizzling battle of the sexes, Johanna shields her heart.

Connor MacMasters, spy for Queen Victoria, is a man on a mission—keep a legendary gemstone from an evil man. Trailing an American novelist who holds the key to the treasure should’ve been simple, but Johanna awakens feelings he’d long thought dead. Torn between duty and desire, he wants her in his bed, but loving her would be a fool’s game. Blasted shame his heart doesn’t agree.

Review

Another awesome read. This is a great book. I enjoyed reading it. The story is quite intriguing, it was hard to put down once I started reading it. Although that was kind of annoying because the book is very lengthy. ;) lol In any case I loved it and I'd be recommending it to anyone who enjoys historical fictions with mystery and romance involved.

Johanna has no idea that a simple trade she arranged with her niece's kidnappers will turn into so much more, all thanks to Connor. It was quite simple, she will go to Highlands, give the book to the people who have her niece, get her back and then leave for America. But then things become very complicated, firstly her niece was not with the people who came to take the book. She was going to go with them but Connor interrupted. He seems to have an agenda of his own and Johanna can't decide whether to trust him or not.

Connor can't believe that anyone is as silly as Johanna. She was willingly going with despicable people, who are surely up to no good. So he feels that he must save her. And in the process if he is able to get what he wants most then so be it. But the real question is if he could trust her or not. She may be fooling him with this damsel-in-distress charade, although it is a charade it isn't a good one because Johanna is not even a little bit thankful for all his help.

They started as strangers, who soon became nemesis, then allies, and may be soon they will become even more than that. But a child's life is at stake here so there is only one thing to do. They must work together and solve the mystery as soon as possible. That will lead them to the person holding the kid. What happens afterwards, well that's not so important right now.

It's quite intriguing story of adventure, treasure hunt, romance, and mysteries. I think all historical fiction fans will enjoy this one. Although if you are as impatient as I am when it comes to mysteries then read on your own risk. You will not get any answers until you have read it to the very end.
